“The proposals to take away housing benefits of under 25s will have major implications on young LGBT people”, says Noel Halifax from the Socialist Workers Party (SWP).

He was speaking at the ‘Pride, Politics and Protest’ event organised by the Birmingham branch of the SWP on Wednesday evening at the LGBT Centre at Holloway Circus.

Geoff Dexter, representing the Birmingham SWP said:

“We were very pleased with the results of the Pride parade on May 23. Today was a chance to look at things in the perspective of the Queen’s speech and reflect on how we can keep this momentum going.

The 1980s Lesbian and Gay Support for Minors is a huge inspiration for us, we want to be able to create that solidarity with communities in Birmingham.”

In the next few weeks, they plan to focus on minority groups in Dudley and Solihul that have been badly hit by Islamophobia and homophobia.
